2011 Chevrolet Cruze Earns NHTSA's 5-Star Rating

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze has earned the NHTSA's 5-Star Overall Safety Rating:

The 2011 Chevrolet Cruze earned five-star crash test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), further building on the vehicle’s safety record in markets around the world.
The Cruze was tested under NHTSA’s revised New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) implemented this fall for the 2011 model year. The rating is based on more rigorous frontal and side crash tests in addition to rollover resistance testing. Under the new system, the three test conditions are combined mathematically into an “Overall Vehicle Score.”
The Cruze is the first vehicle tested under the new rating system to achieve five stars in each of the individual crash impact conditions, leading to an overall vehicle score of five stars – the highest rating possible.

“Cruze has achieved five-star crash safety scores everywhere it is rated in the world. This is the direct result of our global engineering team’s focused effort,” said Jeff Boyer, General Motors’ executive director of vehicle safety. “These safety ratings reflect the confidence we have in Cruze’s state-of-the-art safety technologies and overall crashworthiness.”

Chevrolet Silverado HD Named Motor Trend Truck of the Year

The 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD has been honored with the title of 2011 Motor Trend Truck of the Year:

“On the outside the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado HD appears to have been given a subtle makeover, but it’s what’s under the skin that makes this truck a winner,” said Motor Trend Editor-in-Chief Angus MacKenzie. “Chevy engineers focused on three key areas – powertrain, frame, and suspension – to deliver a truck with significantly improved capability and more refinement.”

The new 2011 Silverado HD built in Flint, Mich., and Fort Wayne, Ind., was introduced this summer, featuring new frame and suspension designs, and a more powerful Duramax diesel engine with 397 horsepower, 765 lb.-ft. of torque, and 11 percent better fuel-economy. As a result, the 2011 Silverado HD is capable of towing up to 21,700 pounds, or carrying 6,635 pounds of payload.
