Chevrolet Vehicles to Feature Auto Environmental Label

From Chevrolet.com:

Chevrolet today announced its vehicles sold in the United States will have EcologicTM environmental labels, starting with the 2012 Chevrolet Sonic, that let customers see some of the environmental features of the vehicle relating to manufacturing, driving and recycling.

Chevrolet is the first automotive brand to include a label of this kind on its vehicles. The Ecologic labels will be located on the rear driver-side window of Sonics beginning in March. It will appear on 2013 Chevrolet vehicles later this year.

Each claim on the Chevrolet-created labels is audited by Two Tomorrows, an independent third-party sustainability agency that provides auditing and assurance services to companies for environmental initiatives.

“Customers want companies to be honest and transparent about their environmental efforts and sustainability goals, and rightly so,” said General Motors North America President Mark Reuss. “Putting an Ecologic label on each Chevrolet is just one more way for us to share our environmental progress.”

'Chevy Happy Grad' Commercial Wins Super Bowl Contest

“Chevy Happy Grad,” an ad submitted by 26-year old Long Island resident Zach Borst, will be aired during the telecast of Super Bowl XLVI, beating out submissions by independent filmmakers from around the world as part of Chevrolet’s Route 66 Super Bowl ad contest.

The ads had more than 32 million total online views between December 22 and January 14.

“We asked filmmakers to depict life’s journey and how Chevrolet is there along the way,” said General Motors Global Chief Marketing Officer Joel Ewanick. “When I saw Zach’s spot, I had to laugh, because the situation is something many families can related to – expectation and reality. ‘Happy Grad’ clearly shows the passion that Chevrolet elicits.”

Borst’s audience on Super Bowl Sunday is expected to exceed 110 million television viewers. “Chevy Happy Grad” was filmed on location near his home on Long Island during a weather window that offered Zach, his cast and crew only four hours to complete the project.

Chevrolet Led 2011 U.S. Passenger Car Sales

From Chevrolet.com:

Chevrolet led all automakers in U.S. passenger car sales in 2011 and posted its largest year-over-year retail sales increase in 35 years, due in large part to strong sales of the Cruze compact sedan. Chevrolet compact car sales almost doubled compared with 2010.

“Leading the U.S. industry in passenger car sales in our centennial year proves that we have transformed the Chevrolet product lineup and are delivering the high-quality, fuel-efficient, expressively designed cars that more and more people want,” said Alan Batey, U.S. vice president, Chevrolet Sales and Service.

Chevrolet sold more than 763,000 passenger cars in 2011. Products included the Sonic subcompact, Cruze compact sedan, Volt electric car, Malibu and Impala sedans, and Camaro and Corvette sporty cars.

“We are confident we can continue to build on the momentum with the new Sonic and the new Malibu Eco arriving in dealer showrooms in the coming weeks.”

Cruze sales in the United States totaled 231,732 in 2011, contributing to the car’s global success. Cruze is the best-selling Chevrolet nameplate around the world with more than 1 million sold since its launch in 2009.

The segment-leading Camaro is winning the race with automotive enthusiasts. Camaro sales rose 8 percent to more than 88,000 units in 2011.

Chevrolet Cruze Offers Luxury-Like Interior Quietness

From Chevrolet.com:

The engineering team used a number of noise-reducing and noise-cancelling technologies on the Cruze body structure, including 30 distinct acoustical treatments. For example, the acoustic package on the Cruze is a Liquid Applied Sound Deadener applied strategically throughout the body structure and melted into place when the body passes through the paint oven.

The doors have triple seals and feature fiberglass “blankets” that serve as water, airflow and noise barriers. They close with a solid, precise sound and no resonance . Before devising these solutions and many more, engineers performed intensive testing throughout the vehicle’s development.
