2014 Chevrolet Silverado: Perfect Pickup for Summer

Looking for the perfect pickup for your summer excursions?  The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado will meet your needs:

1.    No need to stop for directions. Drivers can stay on course with Chevrolet MyLink and OnStar. Simply choose a destination and an OnStar advisor will send turn-by-turn directions directly to the in-dash touch screen.
2.    Ditch the mixed CD. Energize your ride with a road-worthy playlist. The MyLink system includes Bluetooth for phone streaming and enough USB ports and outlets to support multiple devices, making it easier to enjoy your music on the road.
3.    Forget the days of the dead cell phone. Stay charged up with a new 110-volt outlet and cord management system, which allows a cell phone charger to stay plugged in for easy access when needed and concealed when not.
4.    Store snacks and water for the road. The front door panels have integrated pockets ideal for snacks, drink bottles, or travel guides. The rear panels can accommodate a typical 20-ounce bottle.
5.    Spend less time stopping for gas. The redesigned 2014 Silverado is aerodynamically enhanced to reduce drag, giving drivers greater fuel efficiency on the highway.
6.    Stretch out. Passengers can enjoy plenty of legroom, even in the backseat. Thanks to new sculpted seatbacks, rear seat passengers enjoy about two inches more legroom and the ease of entering and exiting through wider rear crew cab doors.
7.    Sleep it off. Passengers can enjoy a quiet nap thanks to Silverado’s new inlaid doors. This new design, combined with triple door seals, helps to reduce wind noise and turbulence, quieting the interior of the cab.
8.    Secure travel necessities. With Silverado’s new Smart Pickup Box and four built-in cargo tie-down provisions, items remain safe and secure on the road. The new CornerStep bumper and handholds provide easier access to climb in the box for loading and unloading.
9.    Tow your boat, camper, trailer, and more. Silverado’s 5.3 L EcoTec3 V-8 and stronger chassis provide towing capability, up to 11,500 pounds, for hauling on long road trips.
10.  Be on the safe side. Travel companions stay safe with Silverado’s two available active safety technologies – forward collision alert and lane departure warning. These features, new to Silverado, warn of collision risk or leaving a lane without signaling.

2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel Provides Muscle Car Torque

From Chevrolet.com:

Imagine quick off-the-line acceleration reminiscent of a classic muscle car combined with the efficiency of a fuel-sipping compact sedan. Dream on? Believe it. The all-new 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel uses a turbocharging feature called “overboost,” but still gets the best highway fuel economy of any non-hybrid passenger car in America.
Cruze Diesel’s turbocharged 2.0L engine delivers a segment-leading SAE-certified 151 horsepower (113 kW) and 264 lb-ft of torque (358 Nm), but overboost can increase torque to 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) for about 10 seconds of stronger acceleration. That’s the equivalent torque delivered by the 1972 Camaro Z28’s heavier 5.7L V8.
Unlike the muscle car era, Cruze Diesel marries that quick burst to a segment-leading EPA-estimated 46 mpg highway, and demonstrated range of 717 miles on one tank of fuel.

Chevrolet Uses 3-D Technology on 2014 Malibu

From Chevrolet.com:

When Chevrolet set out to refresh the Malibu’s interior and exterior for 2014, designers used one of the most cost-effective and time-saving methods in its high-tech tool box: rapid prototyping, also known as 3-D printing.
The processes literally grow prototype parts out of powder or liquid resin at a fraction of the cost associated with building tools to make test parts. Selective laser sintering and stereo lithography – the official names of the processes – helped accelerate Malibu’s development and evaluation. Both processes use specialized software, math data and digital lasers, which accomplish in days what would have taken weeks of clay sculpting in the past.
Rapid prototyping enables designers and engineers to quickly see, touch and test versions of individual components and systems in precise one-third scale and full-size models without having to make changes to production tooling, which can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars.

2014 Chevrolet Impala Engine: Powerful and Fuel Efficient

From Chevrolet.com:

Drivers of the new 2014 Chevrolet Impala will enjoy sweet sound and sweeter savings at the pump thanks to precision noise reduction and a new advanced valvetrain technology on the Ecotec 2.5L four-cylinder engine, arriving in dealerships this month.
Chevrolet expects the 2.5L model to be a popular choice among Impala buyers. More than two-thirds of Chevrolet cars sold in the first quarter of 2013 had a four-cylinder engine.
“Impala customers have three engines to choose from, appealing to a wide array of needs,” said Chris Perry vice president, Chevrolet Marketing. “But the 2.5L model in particular offers both improved fuel economy as well as an accessible starting price of $27,535.”
Chevrolet expects its new flagship sedan to be more fuel efficient, due in part to the 2.5L engine’s Intake Valve Lift Control technology.

2013 Chevrolet Malibu Offers Passive Entry Technology

From Chevrolet.com:

The 2013 Chevrolet Malibu sedan equipped with four-door passive entry makes life a little easier for those frantically searching for keys in the bottom of a deep purse or fumbling to find them when carrying a child or bags of groceries.
Chevrolet placed small buttons on all four doors allowing the driver to unlock the door with one press and all four doors and the trunk with two presses.
An option on the Malibu LTZ, four-door passive entry is a common feature on luxury vehicles, but scarce on cars in the midsize segment. Using Malibu’s closed-loop wireless communication system, the car verifies that the proper key fob is within acceptable range – about three feet – and allows the driver to unlock the vehicle. Each key fob is uniquely mated to its vehicle, so there is practically no chance of false unlocks.

2014 Chevrolet Cruze Diesel Sets Fuel Economy Standard

From Chevrolet.com:

The new 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel, delivers an industry best EPA-estimated 46 MPG on the highway – better than any non-hybrid passenger car in America. It will be available in certain cities this spring and nationwide and in Canada in early fall.
Equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission, the latest addition to the Cruze powertrain family has an estimated range of 700 highway miles on one tank of diesel fuel based on the EPA highway estimate and the vehicle’s fuel tank capacity. That’s about 10 hours of highway driving.
“We harnessed generations of diesel expertise to adapt our world-class global engine for the North American market,” said Gary Altman, chief engineer, Chevrolet Cruze Diesel. “The Cruze Diesel is the best diesel passenger car out there. Chevrolet is redefining the meaning of great fuel economy with this car.”

Chevrolet Uses Virtual Reality Tools to Improve 2014 Impala

From Chevrolet.com:

When professional basketball players and other big-and-tall customers asked Chevrolet for more space and a more comfortable ride in the all-new 2014 Impala, engineers used the latest high-tech tools – including a spaciousness calculator – to create more leg and head room and larger storage areas.
The tool kit also included advanced computer modeling tools, digital human ergonomics models and 3D Cave Automated Virtual Environment.
The team used the spaciousness calculator – a General Motors-exclusive tool – to analyze how customers perceive the vehicle’s roominess, and virtual human models to make the most of vehicle interiors based on an extensive database of driver sizes and postures. The 3D CAVE helped in evaluating design concepts for blind spots, reflections and visibility of objects inside and outside the car.
“Using various advanced technologies, we were able to make dimensional and design modifications in a virtual environment before locking down on a final architecture,” said Crystal Windham, director, Chevrolet passenger car interior design. “These steps are necessary to develop a solid foundation to build on to achieve the best spaciousness, comfort and overall design that will impress our customers.”

Chevrolet Malibu Proudly Displays Ecologic Scorecard

From Chevrolet.com:

Most Chevrolet Malibu customers say they want to know just how green their car is, regardless of its exterior color. Now they can find out what was done to reduce its environmental impact from an at-a-glance EcologicTM window label.
The vehicle’s environmental credentials are built in at almost every step of production.
  • GM’s landfill-free Toledo, Ohio plant manufactures the highest-volume transmission for the Malibu. All waste from daily operations there is reused, recycled, or converted to energy. And the facility is powered 17 percent by renewable landfill gas and a 1.2MW rooftop solar array.
  • Malibu's highest-volume engine is produced at GM’s Tonawanda plant in New York, another landfill-free facility. An area Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Tonawanda for implementing and practicing a ‘green’ and sustainable business philosophy.  Environmental efforts include wildlife habitat development and installing electric-vehicle charging stations in employee parking lots.
  • Most Malibu midsize cars are assembled at Fairfax Assembly, a 2012 Pollution Prevention Award-winning plant recognized by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for energy-reduction and recycling efforts. The facility recycles 91 percent of its everyday waste.

Chevrolet Introduces 2014 Chevrolet SS

From Chevrolet.com:

As Chevrolet’s first V-8, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan since 1996, the new Chevrolet SS is designed to deliver performance on the street and on the track. The 2014 Chevrolet SS will debut this weekend at the Daytona International Speedway as the SS racecar makes its NASCAR debut during the Daytona 500.
“The Chevrolet brand was largely built on the strength of rear-drive performance sedans, yet it's been 17 years since we've offered one,” said Mark Reuss, president of General Motors North America. “The all-new Chevrolet SS fills that void and fills it better than any other vehicle in the brand’s rich history. The comfort, convenience, spaciousness and V-8 power make the SS a total performance package unlike any other on the road today.”
The Chevrolet SS benefits from the proven, race-tested, global rear-wheel drive architecture that is the foundation for the Camaro, Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle and Holden’s VF Commodore.
The Chevrolet SS is powered by the LS3 Chevrolet V-8, expected to deliver 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Also used in the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette, the LS3 displaces 6.2 liters, more than the 5.5-liter V-8 powering the Chevrolet SS NASCAR competitors.

The Chevrolet SS will be available during fourth quarter 2014.

2014 Corvette Highlights 60 Years of Innovation

From Chevrolet.com:

The 2014 Corvette represents the seventh generation of the car. Each has been defined by all-new or significantly revised design, architecture and technology features – including powertrain and chassis/suspension technologies – that have helped Corvette maintain its position as the best-selling premium sports car in America.  All, however, have shared unique elements:
  • All Corvettes have been two-seat sports cars with a front engine driving the rear wheels, and a long dash-to-axle proportion that enhances its powerful look
  • Corvettes have always featured bodies made of composite materials, from fiberglass on the first cars in 1953 to lighter, more advanced composites – including carbon fiber – today
  • The small-block V-8 has been the standard engine in the Corvette for 57 of its 60 years
  • Corvette has been a test-bed for new technologies that migrate to other GM vehicles.
For nearly all of its history, Corvette’s design, performance and technology has been influenced by the lessons learned on the racetrack. It is a pillar of the development process established by Zora Arkus-Duntov, Corvette’s first chief engineer, through overt and covert racing initiatives, leading up to the factory-backed Corvette Racing program’s 2012 American Le Mans Series championship in the production-based GT class.
