Chevrolet Racing Renews Commitment to Breast Cancer Fight

From Chevrolet.com:

Chevrolet Racing will renew the brand’s fight against breast cancer this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway where every lap run under the caution flag will lead to a $200 contribution by Chevrolet to the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative.
“For our 100th birthday in 2011, Chevrolet began its support of the American Cancer Society, and the generous response from our dealers, employees and customers told us we needed to help the Society fight for more birthdays,” said Don Johnson, vice president of Chevrolet Sales and Service. “At Chevy, we believe everyday heroes can accomplish extraordinary things, and it is in this spirit that we work to achieve a world without breast cancer.”
On Friday, 30 breast cancer survivors and their guests will spend the day at Atlanta Motor Speedway and participate in Chevrolet Camaro SS pace car rides around the historic track with Team Chevy NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Jamie McMurray and four-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Champion Ron Hornaday Jr. NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Danica Patrick also will visit with survivors for photos and autographs.
On Sunday, Chevy will donate $200 for every caution lap run during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AdvoCare 500, paced by the pink Camaro SS featuring the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer logo. In 2011, 64 caution laps at Atlanta generated $12,800 for the American Cancer Society.

OnStar Gets New Look for 2013

From Chevrolet.com:

With all the new features inside 2013 General Motors models, new OnStar buttons may not be the first thing drivers notice. However, the first OnStar redesign of what customers have seen in years will reflect more than just new logos.

“While the new buttons are cool, it’s what’s behind the button that is most impressive,” said Douglas McKibbon, engineering group manager, OnStar Hardware. “The buttons were changed for a few different reasons, but one was to better reflect the software updates that have gone into this current generation of OnStar.”

Voice Command Button

The button previously dubbed the “Hands-Free Calling button” – a white phone with a circle around it – is now the “Voice Command button,” featuring a general speech icon. The new button allows for more than just placing or receiving hands-free phone calls. It allows drivers to access a saved route; check Hands-Free Calling minutes or access OnStar Virtual Advisor, which includes saved MapQuest directions or traffic, weather and stock updates. And it will still allow a driver to place or receive a phone call.

Emergency Button

The Emergency button, previously represented by a white cross embedded in a red circle, is now the internationally recognized “SOS” symbol, reflective of OnStar’s upcoming expansion into new global markets. The white cross does not always represent an emergency, depending on the country.

OnStar Button

The blue OnStar button, which serves as the emblem for the 16-year-old telematics company, switched to the company’s new logo which was introduced in late 2010. The new logo was introduced at the company’s Relaunch event in September 2010 along with a pledge to focus on “responsible connectivity.” Some GM models and OnStar FMV already use the new logo.

Camaro Frameless Mirror

Drivers of some 2013 Camaro models will have touch-screen access on the sports car’s frameless mirror that pays homage to both the classic Camaros and today’s tech-savvy driver. The OnStar buttons on the Camaro mirror have electrochromic capabilities, which allow the buttons to light up when touched and dim shortly afterwards. The mirror itself is also auto-dimming, allowing it to compensate for the amount of light inside the vehicle. It comes standard on the Camaro 2SS, 2LT, ZL1 coupe and convertible. GM is considering adding the frameless mirror for other makes and models later.

The 2012 Chevrolet Sonic has been named to the kbb.com Back-to-School List.

From Chevrolet.com:

“Sporty design, vibrant colors, lots of space for friends and even that cool name make the Sonic hatchback and sedan attractive to younger drivers,” said Jack R. Nerad, executive editorial director and executive market analyst for Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. “Their parents, meanwhile, will be keen on this subcompact’s outward visibility, easy-to-drive manners, good fuel economy and eager (but not overwhelming) engines.”
Starting at $14,495, the Chevy Sonic is the only sub-compact built in the United States.  The Sonic comes with the most standard safety equipment in the sub-compact class, including 10 air bags, and has earned an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick and a 5-star overall vehicle score for safety from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Video: 2013 Chevrolet Camaro 1LE at Virginia International Raceway

From Chevrolet.com:

The 2013 road-racing inspired Chevrolet Camaro 1LE, with Camaro engineer Aaron Link behind the wheel, lapped the famed Virginia International Raceway (VIR) “Grand Course” in 2:58.34 – a time previously accomplished by only the upper echelon of performance cars.

The $3,500 1LE package is available on Camaro 1SS and 2 SS coupes, with a manual transmission. A Camaro 1SS with the 1LE package starts at $37,035, including destination, making it one of the most affordable, most capable performance cars offered by any manufacturer.

“The Camaro 1LE combines the best elements of the SS and the ZL1 with a focus on handling,” said Al Oppenheiser, Camaro chief engineer. “We optimized every part of the SS for improved track driving, including gear ratios, suspension tuning, and chassis mounts. The result really brings the Camaro SS alive at every turn – whether you’re carving through your favorite backroads or working on lap times on the track.

“Best of all, the Camaro 1LE is $10,000 less than its nearest competitor,” Oppenheiser said. “For drivers looking for an affordable way to get on the track, what they save with the 1LE will the cover a lot of days at the track.”

Trendy Inferno Orange is Now a Color Trend

From Chevrolet.com:

Inferno Orange is the second-most requested color for Chevrolet Sonic hatchbacks, accounting for nearly one in five dealer orders and signaling a new color trend in the subcompact market. Its popularity trails only the ever-popular black hatchback.

Pantone named PANTONE® 17-1463 Tangerine Tango the Color of the Year for 2012, recognizing orange’s widespread appeal and prominence. Taking cues from the fashion, architecture and furniture industries, Sonic’s design team monitored color to identify hues with longevity that best fit the Sonic attitude.

“Fashion houses can quickly jump on the latest color craze, since their products are designed for shorter life spans, but long-lasting Chevy vehicles must feature colors that will remain attractive and on-trend for multiple years,” says Michelle Killen, lead creative designer in the color and trim studio and exterior paint expert at General Motors Design. “We had a strong feeling that Sonic’s Inferno Orange would hit the trend at the perfect time and hatchback drivers would embrace it.”

Orange, a staple of Corvettes and Camaros, is firmly ingrained in the performance vehicle market. With the Sonic’s turbo-charged engine and Corvette-inspired handling, the design team wanted to visually express its fun-to-drive personality, Killen said.

Chevy design experts predict orange will remain a color trend in the future, transitioning from the bright, chic tint of today to a more burnt, coppery finish in the years to come.
